A generic certificate does not close a competence finding under ISO 9001 or AS9100 clause 7.2, and the auditor knows it. Train every person on your own procedures, and let every seat produce a dated training record with a named person attached.
Not "show me a certificate." Clause 7.2 asks you to determine the competence each role needs, make sure the person has it, and retain documented information as evidence. A generic course covers the first word of that sentence and none of the rest.
It proves someone sat through a course. It says nothing about your procedures, your customer flow-downs or the job that person actually does.
Roles and competence requirements come from your job descriptions. Lessons come from your released procedures. Each completion lands as a training record.
Reference: ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100D clause 7.2, Competence. Determine the necessary competence, ensure the person is competent on the basis of education, training or experience, take actions where needed and evaluate their effectiveness, and retain appropriate documented information as evidence. The evidence is the part a generic certificate leaves out.
The job description tells us what competence that role needs, so we turn it into a requirements list you can argue with. The training folder tells us what evidence you already hold, so we match it against those requirements and show you, on the call, exactly which cells are current, which are due, and which are gaps an auditor would find first.
On your standard, your released procedures and your job descriptions. Roles and competence requirements are drafted from the documents you already have. You review and approve each one.
Each person works through the procedures their role requires, with a short comprehension check built from that revision's actual requirements. Every completion files itself as a training record.
Gaps and all. We walk the matrix together, cell by cell, and you decide what closes, what needs more evidence and what goes on the plan for the next 30 days.
Receiving inspector Requirements drafted from your job description, approved by your named reviewer
| Competence requirement | Evidence | State |
|---|---|---|
| Receiving inspection procedure, current revision | Read and understood, comprehension check passed, acknowledged by trainee, supervisor signed, dated | Current |
| Counterfeit parts awareness | Course certificate and quiz score on file, dated | Current |
| Customer flow-down, receiving clauses | Trained on the prior revision. Procedure revised, re-read pending | Re-read due |
| Measurement equipment handling | No record found in the training folder | Gap |
A gap is a gap until a named person trains, evidence is attached and a named approver signs it off. The platform proposes the state. A human confirms it.
Practitioner-built, role-based, taken on their own shift. Only what is live is listed here.
If a vendor tells you their training module closes findings, ask them who signed.
Thirty minutes with a practising auditor. Bring one job description and whatever your training folder looks like today. You leave with that role's requirements, its evidence and its gaps, in your own environment.
